CLIFFS AT YESNABY

awww, it's the last post featuring the orkneys :(
visit to the cliffs of yesnaby proved again, that the nature has it's own course and if you're hoping for good photos - don't be disheartened by big grey skies, just wait a bit :)

it was a bit of a drive to yesnaby, but when we arrived to the small car park at the end of the road, we already knew it was going to be good :) it was very windy, but everyone living in Scotland knows that wind brings sudden changes in weather and light :) soon enough we witnessed just that - moody light, sudden bursts of sunshine and back to grey
and the roar of the sea was mighty. we both felt very impressed by this cliffs of yesnaby

.

och, to just ostatnia odslona zdjec z okrad :(

that's the view just couple of yards away from car park. cliffs, arches and sound of waves
takie widoki zaczynaja sie juz wlasciwie od samego parkingu; klify, luki, grzmot fal

and more coves and caves

the light was everchanging

overview of rocks colours, and shapes

who dares crossing that bridge? not me!

yesnaby castle, famous sea stack. i'm doubtfull, but Bea tells me, definitely, to wait for better light..
zamek yesnaby, slynny tutejszy ostaniec. mam watpliwosci, ale Bea kazde mi czekac na lepsze swiatlo..

.. and it happens!!!!

on our way back from the castle (15-20 mins walk along the coast)
oh no! come back, birds! it's not autumn yet! no!!!

another sudden (and short) burst of sunshine

big, orcadian skies

THE GLOUP AND MULL HEAD

.. and back to the orkney again! :)
really unfortunate that most of the time we had to explore this area (mull head and the gloup) it was ... 'moody'... as in drizzling from mighty grey sky.. but we still managed to poke around the corner and see some of this remote place.
mull head is located a bit aside from the main orkney tourist route therefore it was quieter :) good, we like quieter :)
and located just at the foot of mull head is the gloup. you have probably seen this marked on a map and wondered what this was. ha! the word 'gloup' means collapsed sea cave, the word comes from norse (just as many many other names and words used in the orkney) it used to be vikings' land after all :)

.

.. i jestesmy spowtotem w tamatyce orkad :)

the gloup

and its other end /  i jego drugi koniec

moody cliffs of mull head

as usual, there are sea stacks, larger and smaller

and some stack-islands too :)

there is a hidden cove, steps took us to the water front and up on another stack-island

i loved it there. i felt very close to the nature, standing right at the edge of the world. before me - wild sea, above me - mighty grey skies, around me - thousands of curious fulmars :)

mull head

.. and then suddenly it brightened up and for a moment i enjoyed a warm afternoon sun

chasing autumn in perthshire

just before storm ophelia hit scotland and suddenly bared trees of leaves :)
i don't think i've ever seen the hermitage this busy- both car parks were full, there was a bus of asian tourists and the crowds of photographers were just overwhelming. seriously, i mean it, to the state where photographers queued to the 'best spots' to take the classic, long exposure shots (and some were rather unhappy about sharing the spot!)
but apart from the crowds, the hermitage was just as usual- fantastic place for a walk and atmospheric autumn shots :) and for a nice walk amongst some of UK's highest and oldest trees

and a very pleasant surprise, when i was photographing the bridge, somebody came over to me and they actually recognised me from this blog :) a very very nice surprise, indeed :)

.
kilka dni przed wielkimi wiatrami ktore przyniosla ze soba ophelia, tuz zanim ogolocola drzewa z kolorowych lisci :)
chyba jeszcze nigdy nie widzialam tylu ludzi w the mermitage, oba parkingi byly pelne, byl autobus chinskich turystow i tlumy fotografow.
